  What is a transmission?
Your transmission takes the power from the engine and transfers that power to the wheels of your car. It contains a system of gears to make the most efficient use of your engine’s power.

What goes bad in a transmission?
The most frequent part of a transmission to fail are the clutches. The clutches use friction to apply different gears. Much like brake pads, the clutches eventually wear out and need to be replaced. Overheating will cause clutches to fail prematurely.
